Beginner Marketers

In one of my previous posts I mentioned that there is a hot niche right now for anyone with word press experience to set up blogs for local businesses.  We all knew that local businesses have been left out of the internet marketplace as a group.  Their old ways of advertising – the yellow pages, direct mail, and even television is seriously on a down slide.  In fact, haven’t the yellow pages filed for bankruptcy?

Even though setting up blogs was going to be a step in the right direction, there is still the problem of driving traffic.  They would need to learn how to post regularly, write articles,  get a presence on Facebook, Twitter etc.   And….we all know how time and labor intensive these steps can be.

By December of 2008, the economy and the commercial real estate industry were deteriorating at a rapid pace and I knew that  I needed to prepare for a possible job loss. Now that you are familiar with online marketing you know the most popular blogging platform out there is Wordpress.  Wordpress is what’s known as a CMS  “content management system” platform.  It is by far the best application out there and best of all it is FREE.

The only drawback to Wordpress is that it is not quite so easy – even for people who have some html experience.  I was slightly familiar with Dreamweaver and I found it a bit difficult.  Good news is with each version of Wordpress it is becoming more user friendly.   Once you get the hang of Wordpress you will love it.

Part of the difficulty is figuring out how to edit a Wordpress blog.  By edit I mean, how to upload the right theme layout, monetize it and how to optimize it for the search engines.
